35mm Slide and Negative Scanning
We scan 35mm slides and negatives, either in color or black and white, into digital images. Slide or negative scanning at screen resolutions (1,000 dpi or approx. 1300x875 pixels) costs $2.00 ($.90 per slide in quantity of 50 or more); medium resolution (2,000 dpi or approx. 2600x1750 pixels) costs $4.00 ($1.50 per slide in quantity of 35 or more); high resolution (4,000 dpi or approx. 5200x3500 pixels) costs $10.00 each in any quantity. These are very high-quality scans and can be provided in any common format such as .PSD, .JPG, .TGA, .BMP or .TIF. Scanning prices include dust and scratch removal, color-correction, and color-balancing. Our scans are so accurate that you can use them in conjunction with your original slide to color-balance your monitor. We refer to approximate sizes of scans because we set our equipment to the optimum settings, and since slide mount apertures vary from one film processor to another, we crop the scan and discard the part of the scan composed of the slide mount before saving the file. If you have photo editing software and do not require dust and scratch removal, color correction, or cropping, we can give you 4,000 dpi scans for only $4.50 each.
Your slides must be in flat, undamaged mounts suitable for our bulk loader, or we must make an additional charge of $1.99 each for correcting the mount or duplicating the slide before scanning it. Stereo slides or uncropped 126 Instamatic slides or negatives can be scanned with the same additional charge (cropped 126 slides are the same cost as uncropped 35mm). All orders have a $4.50 handling charge added to the final cost.

Larger Transparency Scanning
We scan from transparencies as large as 8 by 10 inches, at up to 1200 dpi and 36-bit color. The cost is determined by the file size; a 2 1/4 inch transparency scanned at 600 dpi resolution, saved in a common format such as .PSD, .JPG, .TGA, .BMP or .TIF, costs $5.00. These scans are extremely high quality with accurate color. All orders have a $4.50 handling charge added to the final cost.
Reflective Picture Scanning
We scan from reflective pictures as large as 8 1/2 inches by 14 inches, at up to 2400 dpi and 36-bit color. The cost is determined by the file size; a 3 1/2 inch x 5 inch print scanned at low resolution for computer screen use, saved in a common format such as .PSD, .JPG, .TGA, .BMP or .TIF, costs $5.00. These scans are extremely high quality with accurate color. All orders have a $4.50 handling charge added to the final cost.
Delivery
We save to recordable CD's or DVD's at no charge. You can use these scans for making prints, 35mm slides, overheads, slide shows for TV, etc. We can convert your scans to just about any required file format, retouch the images, as well as reduce the number of colors or size for on-screen shows, but there are so many possibilities for each image that we cannot quote a set price for these enhancements.
Photographic Specialties is no longer producing slides and transparencies. I have been self-employed for 35 years, but looking forward to retirement since my wife died five years ago. With the decline of conventional photography and the recent recession, the availability of film and chemicals as well as the volume of work has declined to such an extent that it is no longer possible to have fresh chemicals to develop film.
