SLIDES FROM ADOBE ILLUSTRATOR

PhotoGraphic Specialties currently uses Adobe Illustrator version 10 to produce 35mm slides from your files. We accept Illustrator .ai files.

In Illustrator CS2 (12) or Version 10, start by creating a new file with a "custom" size in "inches". The width should be 11 in. and the height 7.33 in. Press the right button (landscape) for "Orientation." For "Color Mode" select "RGB."

The artboard which appears is the full frame of 35mm film which will be your slide. Now you can create your slide, but first add a black rectangle filling the artboard completely, since unexposed film is black. Remember that anything you place within about .25 inch of any edge of the artboard may get covered by the slide mount. When you have finished, save your file as an Illustrator .ai file to send to us.

In Version 8 of Illustrator, before you begin to create your 35mm slides, set your system printer to the HP LaserJet 3. You may not have this printer, so you may have to install the software for it; we have chosen it simply because the software for it came with Windows (and therefore you have it), and Illustrator will need this information to provide us with a printable file. You will never have to actually print to this printer.

After you set the HP LaserJet 3 as your default printer, start Illustrator, and go to the drop-down menu under "File." Choose "Document Setup." Set the "Artboard Size" to "Custom" in "Units" of "Inches." "Width' should be "10.24" and "Height" should be "6.82." Press the second button (landscape) for "Orientation." For "View" select "Single Full Page." Next, under the "View" drop-down menu, choose "Show Rulers." We suggest you set the origin of the rulers to the top left of the page.

In Version 7 of Illustrator, click on "Print Setup." Set the "Orientation" to "Landscape" and click on "OK." Next, set the "Artboard Units" to "Inches." We have on our machine all the fonts which came with Adobe Illustrator 7, 8, 9, 10 and CS2 as well as with Windows or Mac OSX but let us know which fonts you have used, as they are not all installed at one time! You may use either Postscript or Truetype type.

Production of these items has ended. This page is for information only. Photographic Specialties is no longer producing slides and transparencies. I have been self-employed for 35 years, but looking forward to retirement since my wife died five years ago. With the decline of conventional photography and the recent recession, the availability of film and chemicals as well as the volume of work has declined to such an extent that it is no longer possible to have fresh chemicals to develop film. I hope that if you still need conventional slides and transparencies, you will be able to find someone who can produce them for you. Thank you for your orders over the years.
